Gibson Park
Owner: City of Miami
Project Location: Miami, FL

Situated on 14 acres of publicly owned land, Gibson Park is located at 13th Street and NW Third Avenue — once considered Overtown’s “main street.” The design plan responded to the goals established by the owner’s RFP and the community, as well as existing site conditions, sustainability, simplicity in construction systems and cost-sensitivity.

Project components include an athletic field, bleacher seating, pre-engineered covered stadium with press box area, dugout, fencing, scoreboard, sports lighting and Health Beat Vita Course fitness course.

Other features include a 6,491-square-foot recreational building, Myrtha stainless steel Recreational pool with learn-to-swim area and tot pool, 2,500-square-foot playground and an open-play area, site amenities and a bandstand pavilion.

The recreational building houses the administrative office, lifeguard and health rooms, ticket office, kitchenette, restrooms/lockers, exercise, weight and storage rooms, laundry, reception and lobby areas.

RDC was proud to make recommendations that garnered additional LEED credits, ensuring certification and pushing the project to the next higher certification level.  Our diligence in the field with regard to following green building practices also provided the project with exemplary performance credits.  Our vigilance of the LEED scorecard assisted the City of Miami and design team to anticipate problem areas, and make adjustments, achieving a “Gold” certification from the Green Building Certification Institute.

Today, Gibson Park averages 108 visitors daily, and 1,500 at peak times.
