Jackson Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Pool

Jackson Memorial Hospital, home of the Ryder Trauma Center, is a full-service healthcare system and the only pediatric and adult Level 1 trauma center in Miami-Dade County. Recently, a brand-new nine-floor, state-of-the-art, LEED-certified (silver rating) rehab facility replaced the existing Rehabilitation Hospital. This new facility was not only strategically conceptualized to be an effective tool in the hospital’s long-term goals and objectives but also to be efficient in its overall operation. The one thing missing from the previous facility, according to the therapists, was a pool where they could treat patients. The new facility includes a Multipurpose Therapy Pool and a smaller Hydroworx Treadmill Pool, both of which received two thumbs up from all the therapists.

According to the project’s general contractor James Taylor of Turner Construction, “The Multipurpose Therapy Pool is considered the high point of the new facility, and RDC was very instrumental in its success.” The 60-foot x 20-foot concrete pool is fully tiled with 1-inch x 1-inch mosaic tiles and comes equipped with a stainless steel gutter system, Badu Jet swim jets that create a swim current that aids the rehabilitation process, an acrylic viewing window so therapists can observe patients from the outside, ADA rails, benches and a ramp that provides wheelchair access to the pool.

RDC value-engineered the filtration system for both pools to ensure Jackson’s Rehab facility got state-of-the art equipment at an economical price. The filtration system RDC engineered and installed in both pools delivers greater efficiency in the equipment room and is designed to ensure the circulation of high-quality water at all times.
