Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport Curbside Canopies

The task was to design and construct a passenger gateway connecting the new terminal to three existing terminals that would provide needed curbside cover for pedestrians and be identifiable from the air at night. The challenge was constructing what could easily have been a $4.5 million project for a $3.5 million budget. The solution: a tensile membrane structure that was attractive and complementary to adjoining structures.

By selecting the right material, implementing strict cost-control measures and teaming with the leader in tensile membrane industry, RDC was able to stay on budget without sacrificing quality or aesthetics.

Identifiable from the air at night, these curbside canopies have become the architectural signature for the airport.
