University of Miami, Scientific Dive Training Facility

The University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science recently completed construction on their state-of-the-art Scientific Dive Training Facility, The Splash, on its Virginia Key Campus located on Biscayne Bay.

As one of the few facilities of its kind in the nation, the new training facility will expand the school’s capability in marine research and education by training scientists and students with the necessary scientific diving skills and technology.

The Myrtha Pool is 75′ x 50′ with a depth of 15′ feet. One of the main obstacles to overcome when building a pool so close to Biscayne Bay was the dewatering process. As the contractor started digging for the pool shell, they discovered an existing structural foundation that never showed up on the as-built drawings or the soils reports.

  • Myrtha overflow gutter
